Diversified Agriculture Systems Field Day: Grazing, Agroforestry and Kernza at Joia Food & Fiber Farm

Joia Food & Fiber Farm is hosting a perennial-centric field day on Wednesday, September 6th from 12:00 – 2:00 PM.

Please RSVP to ilf@iastate.edu so we have enough food and beverages.

Lillördag will be catering lunch, using local food ingredients like Joia Food & Fiber Farms’ meats, local cheese, bread made with kernza and buckwheat and agroforestry nuts and fruits. There will also be a Kernza shortbread for dessert.

They will have a farm tour via hayracks with stops and speakers along the way. Our special guest speakers are:

Jenn Ripp, Agroforestry Educator Savanna Institute – introducing Savanna Institute and agroforestry practices

Omar de Kok-Mercado, MadAgricutlure’s Midwest Regional Manager talking perennial integration into annual systems

Matt Leavitt, Perennial Grains and Winter Annuals Agronomy Specialist, University of Minnesota Forever Green sharing about kernza and winter annuals

Josh Heims, Floyd County NRCS sharing cost share opportunities for grazing, agroforestry, perennial grains, diverse crop rotations and organic initiatives.

And Alisha, NRCS regional soil health specialist will be demonstrating their rainfall simulator on different perennial soils.

Bring a sunhat, sunscreen and wear appropriate shoes.
