Farmers Market Workshop 2023

The annual HHNI Farmers Market Workshop will be held on March 4, 2023 at the Clear Lake Public Library, 200 N 4th St, Clear Lake, IA,  from 10:30 to 3:30.

Sessions include

  • Get Started in E-Commerce with Mallory DevriesDo you want to start selling your homemade and homegrown products online, but don’t know how where to begin? Professional web designer and farmer Mallory Devries will help you determine the best platform for you, do an intro into WordPress/blogging, share ideas on how to best display your products, and provide everyone a brief start up consultation. Bring your laptop and get prepared to take your business to the next level!
  • Expanding Your Business with the Local Food Purchasing Assistance Program with Andrea Evelsizer

    Through the Iowa Local Food Purchase Assistance Program, Iowa will buy $1.8 million dollars of local food including produce, meat, dairy and value-added products over the next two years from local food producers and deliver it free-of-charge to underserved communities in Iowa. This program will especially emphasize creating market opportunities for socially disadvantaged and beginning farmers.

  • Food Assistance Programs at Market with Erin McCord

    Healthy Harvest of North Iowa Local Food Coordinator Erin McCord will provide a brief overview of the food assistance programs available at market, including vendor acceptance and reimbursement. This will include SNAP/EBT, Double Up Food Bucks and Senior/WIC checks.

     

  • Market Roundtable Discussion

    Join a panel of market board members, managers and vendors in a discussion of best-practices, concerns and ideas for business operating in farmers market spaces.

     

  • Understanding the 2022 Home Food Processing Establishment License with Kurt Rueber, DIA

    “The 89th Iowa General Assembly passed new legislation (HF2431) during the 2022 session that created a new home food processing establishment (HFPE) license. This license will effectively replace home bakery licenses and adds the ability for licensees to make, package, and process additional food products.” This new law also created a lot of questions from home food processors. Kurt Rueber, Environmental Specialist with the Food and Consumer Safety Bureau, a division of the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals, will be here to explain what the new license means for home producers. Kurt is a wonderful resource and is happy to answer everyone’s questions!

     

  • Farmers Market Nutrition Program Certification webinar

    This one hour webinar provided by IDALS is a requirement towards vendor certification needed to accept and receive reimbursement for Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers at authorized farmers markets and farmstands.
